How to use a screen time timer
Agree on the window first
Choose the activity and duration before it begins. For a game, discuss whether the ending means finishing the current turn or saving immediately.
Keep the countdown visible
Start the timer on a nearby screen if the activity occupies the main device. Keep that screen awake so the ending is visible.
Move to the next activity
When the timer ends, follow the agreement and help with the change. Choose the next activity in advance, such as a snack or outdoor play.
Screen-time windows to plan
A gaming session
Set twenty or thirty minutes and agree how to save progress near the ending. The timer cannot know when an online match finishes.
Watching videos
Choose a window that fits the video or episode. Disable autoplay yourself if you do not want another video to begin.
Your own browsing break
Use ten minutes as a visible limit for a social feed or news check, then close it yourself and return to your next task.
A visible agreement
- Screen-time presets include a 45-minute option for a longer agreed session.
- The liquid countdown can run on a separate phone, tablet, or computer where everyone can see it.
- Pause or stop if plans change. Device restrictions must be configured separately in your device’s parental controls.
This tool uses the same liquid countdown as our free visual countdown timer. Choose that page for your saved general-purpose presets.
Frequently asked questions
Will this timer lock my child’s screen?
No. It is a visual countdown, not parental-control software. It cannot block apps, stop playback, or lock a device.
What screen-time limit should I set?
The presets are convenient durations, not recommendations for a child’s age or circumstances. Choose the limit that fits your family’s agreement and the activity.
Can I show the timer on another device?
Yes. Open this page on a nearby phone, tablet or computer and start it there. Countdown state does not synchronize between devices.
Can I share a selected duration?
Yes. Add ?minutes=20, for example, to the URL to select twenty minutes on opening. The recipient must press Start; an active countdown is not shared.
