A Three-Minute Classroom Clean-Up Routine

A three-minute visual timer gives the class a shared cue to put materials away and check the room. Before starting, tell students which materials to collect, where they go, and what to do when the countdown reaches zero.

Open a 3-minute classroom timer. The duration is already selected. Press Start when everyone knows their job.

Before the countdown

Give each table one clear assignment, such as returning markers to the tray or putting scrap paper in the recycling bin. Decide which routes around the room should stay clear. Choose a color you can see from the back of the room. For a quiet ending, open Settings, then choose No Alarm under Alarm Sound.

During the countdown

  1. Start the timer and choose Fullscreen if the button is available on the classroom computer.
  2. Ask students to walk as they put shared supplies away. A simple team challenge is to leave each table ready for the next group.
  3. At zero, have each table check its supplies and the area around it. If materials remain, finish the job together.

Use the 5-minute clean-up timer when a project has several steps, such as washing brushes and moving paintings to dry. To reuse your own duration tomorrow, enter it and choose Copy timer link.

The visual classroom timer also includes examples for learning stations and partner discussions.
